Top Tips For Moving During A Pandemic

Posted on by Matthew Carter Removals

As the restrictions have slowly begun to lift, for many people across the country, moving house is now a possibility again. However, there are still many questions on the entire process of moving and the safest way, so we’ve put together a few top tips to help.

Keep Contact to a Minimal – Socially Distance

As ridiculous as it may sound, it is important to be proactive and keep any contact as minimal as possible. Prior to moving day, ensure all your boxes are packed by members of your household, sealed, labelled and placed in one space together. This reduces where any movers may need access to.

Although in most cases, it can be quite easy to socially distance, there may be scenarios where this is not possible, such as carrying a particularly heavy piece of furniture which may require multiple people. Therefore, it would be beneficial to confirm with your movers the number of movers you will require for the process to go smoothly.

Disinfect Everything

Whether you’re planning to use a packing service or not, deep cleaning everything, where possible, is a great way to reduce any risks and also means all your belongings will be nice and clean when you move into your new home or premises. If you are using a packing service, you will need to be extra vigilant and ensure every mover is wearing gloves or is regularly cleaning their hands with water and hand wash or sanitiser. Placing an ample supply of sanitiser in and around all the rooms and spaces in the new and old house will encourage everyone to use it regularly.

Before moving into your new property, clean and disinfect everywhere! Allow 24 hours after cleaning before moving.

Purchase New Packing Materials

Although it might be more cost-effective to recycle or purchase used boxes, it can also pose an increased health risk. Invest in a set of new packing materials, as this way you’ll have to avoid the task of trying to disinfect a cardboard box! However, you can reuse materials you already own, just be wary of how long you have had them and disinfect where possible.

Purchasing brand new packing products from your chosen mover is a great way to avoid any confusion.

At Your New Home

Before you move in, As much as you may like to get unpacked and settled in as soon as possible, we would suggest only unpacking the necessary items and cleaning things prior to placing them in your new home. Once you’ve unpacked everything, discard all your packing materials safely and appropriately.
